Bloody Marvellous: George Haydn 1915 - 2005

Author(s): Dinah Holman; Christine Cole Catley (eds)

New Zealand | Biography

George Haydn so loved life, and lived it with such gusto, that his trademark response was either "Marvellous" or "Bloody marvellous". Sent away by his large and loving family in Hungary to escape Hitler, he arrived in New Zealand in 1939, alone except for one cousin. Together with business partner George Rollett, he started Haydn and Rollet in March 1946. The stories in this book tell how, through the power of his personality and character, he attracted a large and devoted following of family, friends and work colleagues.
